    Check Moodle Regularly!

    Parents and Students:

*Please make sure your child is reading his or her AR book.  NEW AR RULES: Students are required to earn AT LEAST five AR points every three weeks (the next five points are due Feb. 12th).  Students will still need to earn at least 15 AR points per nine weeks, but this will encourage them to be more consistent.  Any "extra" points earned will carry over to the next three weeks!

Parents, please be aware that AR points are an important factor toward your child's overall grade.  Frequent AR reading enhances reading fluency and comprehension, which are vital parts toward passing the EOG's!

    Remember, 15 AR points=A.

*Remember, 15 AR points are mandatory to receive an 'A' at the end of nine weeks.  AR points are WORTH A TEST GRADE!!*

    Weekly Agenda:

    Monday (2/01): Snow day!

    Tuesday (2/02): Snow day...

    Wednesday (2/03): Snow day?

Thursday (2/04): We will review poetic elements (metaphor, simile, idiom, personification, alliteration, onomatopoea, repetition, oxymoron).  We will read "Casey at the Bat" in class.  Students will discuss the meaning of the poem and recognize poetic elements.  HOMEWORK: Complete the metaphor and simile handouts--due tomorrow!

Friday (2/05): We will focus on rhyme, rhythm, stressed and unstressed sylables, and context clues.  We will read three poems in class.  MAKE SURE YOU TURN IN YOUR HOMEWORK!

  • ANCIENT GREECE UNIT

I'm sorry Moodle wasn't updated last week.  Between snow and illness, I haven't been in the classroom for a week!  It is good to be back, and I am excited to finish our Ancient Greece unit this week.  We have some catching up to do!!!!

Monday:  Let's review!  I am going to go over the Ancient Greece PowerPoint that is linked below.  Students will see who can put together the map of Europe first and identify Greece.  Next we will begin creating our own myths.

Homework:  Study for tomorrow's Europe map quiz.  A great way to study is using the following website: www.sheppardsoftware.com This will be our second Europe Map Quiz.  Also, Activity Logs are due tomorrow.

Tuesday:  Europe Map Quiz #2!  We will finish our myths from yesterday and present them to the class.  Those city-states who choose to act them out may have the advantage! (hint, hint)

Homework:  Bring in research, pictures, posterboard, colors, etc. for your god/goddess poster.  We will have one per city-state.  See the link below for a good website to help you with this task.

Wednesday:  (Early Release Day)  Each city-state will have the full class time to assemble their posters.

Homework:  Study for Ancient Greece test!  Use the PowerPoint below and/or your notes to help you study.

Thursday:  Ancient Greece Test! (If we have time, we will present the god/goddess posters.)

Homework:  Those who were chosen from their city state to run in tomorrow's "marathon" should wear appropriate clothing.

Friday:  The last event of our Olympics will be the marathon.  Next stop, ROME!

Homework:  No homework for the weekend. : )
